China IT procurement regulations – next round of consultations starts

This is one to keep watching: following the topic of Political Risk in Offshore Development

The idea is that as a matter of national security the software source code must be available for inspection.

There are already issues accessing Western technology from China – most notably the blocking of most western social media and all google apps (exception being google translate which does a remarkably poor job at translating chinese).  This affects not only android but also websites linking to google domains for google apis and from time to time others – search “china github” for example.

Will this promote Chinese software or promote a technology fork between China and the rest of the world?  (Exception currently made for Apple.)

For China market for example you shouldn’t ignore Alipay’s 350million and Wechat’s 500million users – and the wechat api documentation is now available in English too.
